Photos of snow shoe trek in huge walnut forest, Arslanbob, Kyrgyzstan

I bet you didn't know that the BIGGEST walnut forest in the world can be found in this beautiful mountain village called Arslanbob in Kyrgyzstan- over 60000 hectares of walnut tree, walnut tree and more walnut trees! Locals go walnut crazy in September when its time to pick them up. We were there at the end of March sooooo no walnut picking for us....instead we were confronted by the most beautiful blue sky weather we have seen in a very very very long time. It was practically t-shirt - shorts weather. Nooooo we were not going to the beach ( the sea couldn't be further away!). We were on a mission to go trekking but no ordinary trekking...we tried some shoe trekking with our fantastic super suntanned chain smoking guide. And after five hours of seeing lots of snow we returned with soggy socks to our local family who had prepared some wonderful tasty "Plov": rice, veggies, bits of meat washed down with some compulsory tea. Fantastic.

We could have stayed in Arslanbob for a very long time. It was that simple and good. We will be back for the walnuts!
