Moving south from Uzbekistan we came across a very strange sight in the middle of the Karakum desert of Turkmenistan...apparently the gas craters which have been set alight are artificial..we cannot find a nice, exciting geological or extra-terrestrial explanation! Obviously vodka was drunk during our camping night with our two russian friends..it felt like we were living on the moon with the orange lit crater in the distance and a nearby gas drilling rig that looked more like a martian spaceship waiting to take off. www.stephieandraigoasia.blogspot.com
