We woke up bright and early, ate a huge Serbian omelette and headed off - destination Belgrade, capital of Serbia!
A large lazy turtle relaxing on the cycle path showed us the way to Ivanovo village where we would take a second ferry across the Danube. We cycled along a 30 km dike past pristine wetlands full of noisy ducks and birds (we are no bird experts but did spot plenty of cormorant ducks, ibis, herons...). A huge and excited German Shepherd dog that acted more like a hungry Bengali tiger decided to give chase to us soon after. Luckily, after plenty of running, jumping and barking he gave up....
At the "ferry terminal" (a muddy path) we were greeted by 6 tractors and 6 farmers who were also waiting to cross. Once on the other side we were faced with about 15 km of busy road cycling..lots of big trucks, buses, cars....what a shock after 5 days in the countryside! Before too long we were in downtown Belgrade and enjoying a well deserved hot shower in the Manga hostel. We had just cycled 425 km from Bulgaria and it was time to relax for a couple of days and experience the famous Belgrade nightlife.
Stats for day 6:
Cycled 56 km.
Time: 4 hrs 11 min.
Max speed: 51.1 km/h
Avg speed: 13.3 km/h.
Mid afternoon Temp: 30 degrees C.
