Day 327: Danube cycle tour Day 9: Sremski Karlovci to Novi Sad - 18 km

Easy peasy day because we had less than 20 km to cycle to Novi Sad. The cycle path crosses the railway path but has no barriers. 10 seconds after crossing it , this train came round the corner...pheeew, very lucky and maybe a little stupid to have crossed it in the first place!

Once in Novi Sad we dumped the bikes and explored. Famous for  EXIT, an international music festival held in the Petrovaradin fortress in July....the fortress was amazing with great views of the Danube soooo imagine adding a couple of stages, bands and 100,000 plus people to the fortress... ! We are coming back !

More cool and laid back than Belgrade, Novi Sad is choked with bars and outdoor terraces among some pretty churches. It also has a nice river beach for a cheeky swim. Guess where we were this afternoon ?!?

Novi Sad represents the end of the first leg of the Danube by bike journey. With sore bums and legs we will take the train to Budapest tomorrow and cycle the second leg towards Passau in Germany via Bratislava and Vienna. Long live bike power!

Stats for day  9:
Cycled 17.6 km.
Time: 1 hrs 21 min.
Max speed: 33.8 km/h.
Avg speed: 12.9 km/h.
Total Distance covered: 533 km.
Mid afternoon Temp: 36 degrees C.
