Day 280-281: The sand castles (Kaluts) of Iran!

Not far from the city of Kerman in SE Iran are the "massive sand castles" or so called Kaluts of Iran. No one, not even Rai the geo man has any idea how these "sand castles" were formed but the scenery is unique and stunning. We headed out for our camping trip in the company of Mr Hossein Vatani and his 1978 Green Landcruiser. And what a legend he was. The plan was to sleep in his million star hotel among the sand castles. Unfortunately it rained and rained and rained but we did have fun eating tins of aubergines squashed in his car, laughing at his jokes, playing the odd guitar tune and then sleeping in and out of the car depending on what the clouds above us were doing. What a night to remember! It's the company that counts as well as the place! Next day Hossein was randomly interviewed by a film crew...he is not only a desert man but a film star as well ! and then he prepared the best ever Bademjan (more aubergines but cooked with delicious spices) and we had a nice picnic and siesta to make up for our night inside the car!
