Day 282-283: Not too warm in the Persian Gulf, Iran

If you go at the wrong time of year the Persian Gulf can be a real furnace. Luckily for us our April trip to Qeshm island which lies close to the Hormuz strait and the Arabian Peninsula was a much cooler affair! And obviously Rai went for a few swims (Stephie unfortunately didn't - woman are apparently banned from swimming in the open sea in Iran although we are not sure if this applies to tourists!). The interior of the island is also dotted with some amazing geology including the largest salt cave in the world....6km in length. Obviously Rai again had to try to reach the end of the cave..he didn't get very far (check out the photo!). To keep Bandari villages like Laft nice and cool in the summer months wind towers or Badgirs are used. Perfect idea if you have no AC! And since we were living on an island we were all excited to try out some seafood. Unbelievably we found no seafood restaurant just a simple KEBAB store ! The question remains: do Iranians actually like seafood ?!
