Day 285: The ancient city of Persepolis, Iran

Among large groups of school kids who were continually giggling at our sight we checked out the magnificent ruins of Persepolis - one of the most remarkable cities built by the Achaemenid Empire (7th Century BC). Just like our previous trips to Machu Picchu in Peru, Tikal in Guatemala, Angkor Wat in Cambodia this place really left a lasting impression on us...why can we not build something similar in the 21st century instead of resorting to skyscrapers, mansions and dull shopping centres!
