Day 308: A mountain summit full of statues!, Nemrut Dagi NP, Eastern Turkey

Mount Dagi at a height of 2150m might seem like any other mountain peak in eastern Turkey. But once you reach the top not only do you have amazing views of the surroundings (a little too cloudy on our visit for good photos) but you have these incredible statues sitting on either side of an artificial summit of broken up rock....apparently the wonderful work of a pre-roman king... We went up for sunset and then crossed our fingers someone would give us a lift or we would do the 9km return walk to our hostel in the dark....All the minivans minus one had passed and we were still walking down. Was our hitchhiking technique failing us on this crucial moment!? The  last minivan passed.....boooo...but then stopped, reversed and luckily gave us a lift! We then spent the next 10 minutes practicing our German with a busload of elderly tourists. Zeer schun.....! Next day a busy school bus gave us a lift into town and we thanked them with a classic Rai guitar tune! Nice applause!
